Essential fatty acids (EFA) are important for bivalve larval survival and growth. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively assess for the first time through a mass-balance approach dietary EFA incorporation and synthesis within Crassostrea gigas larvae. A first experiment was carried out using two microalgae, Tisochrysis lutea (T) and Chaetoceros neogracile (Cg), as mono- and bi-specific diets. A second experiment using a similar design was performed to confirm and extend the results obtained in the first. Introduction: Marine farming in France is currently very widely dominated by oyster farming. French oyster production totals 148,467 tons, for a turnover of close to 280 million euros, making France the leading European producer. The two main species concerned are the cup oyster, Crassostrea gigas (140,000 tons) and the flat oyster, Ostrea edulis (2,000 tons), the production of which has collapsed since 1970 following successive epizootics of Marteilia refringens and Bonamia ostreae. The bacteria of the Vibrio genus are one of the most abundant groups in the aquatic ecosystems. Two species of vibrios, Vibrio splendidus and V. Aestuarianus, have been associated, in some cases, to mortality in flat oyster Crassostrea gigas farms, most of the time during the summer period. This doctoral thesis studies the Vibrio-host interaction and their modulations according to the host's pathogenic virulence and its genetic, physiologic and immunitary parameters. Whatever the hydraulic gestion, an épuration of the fishes sewages is possible with the integrated system studied. The main action is situed in the intermediary pond with a significant decrease of nutrients, especially ammonia, and particulate mineral matters. The oyster's pond have no significant action on nutrients, but their action is real on chlorophyll which become limiting factor in 20% renewal system. The G-banding technique was performed on aneuploid karyotypes from gill tissue of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, to assess whether chromosome losses could be explained by differential chromosomal susceptibility and to clarify the negative correlation between aneuploidy and growth rate previously reported in different populations of this oyster. The study of 95 G-banded aneuploid karyotypes showed that only 4 of the 10 chromosome pairs (viz. 1, 5, 9, and 10) of C. gigas were affected by the loss of one homologous chromosome. Pairs 1, 9, and 10, which were lost in 56, 33, and 44% of cases, respectively, may be considered to be differentially affected. Hypotheses on this differential chromosomal susceptibility are discussed. |

CL is based on the physical properties of lattice-bound manganese (Mn2+), which is the main activator in calcium carbonate. The in vitro model Ostrea edulis hemocyte - Bonamia ostreae is interesting to investigate host-parasite interactions at the cellular level. Indeed, this unicellular parasite infects the flat oyster Ostrea edulis and multiplies within hemocytes, the central effectors of oyster defenses. Apoptosis is a mechanism used by many organisms to eliminate infected cells. Japanese cupped oysters suffer summer mortality in many culture sites along the French Atlantic coast. To ascertain whether mortality might be associated with morphological features of the shells, we estimated fluctuating asymmetry (FA) of hatchery/nursery-produced oysters kept in culture bags in the intertidal. FA is defined as random variations from a perfect symmetry plane (bilateral or radial) in some morphological trait. FA increases with disruption of homeostasy during ontogeny and has both genetic and environmental determinants.
